Nurse Vaccine

Author: Justin Noble

Raymond Brain must tell his fellow residents of Body Village that flu season is returning. To make things worse, everyone is going to need a flu shot. His friends do not like this announcement because they don’t like shots! Raymond must remind everyone of how the flu feels and why it is a good idea to get a flu shot. Nurse Vaccine enters the story and helps calm down the residents of Body Village and proceeds with giving them their vaccine in an effort to keep them healthy!

This cute story used our body parts portrayed as citizens of Body Village to help children understand the benefits of the flu vaccine. Each member of Body Village was given a flu vaccine to keep healthy. They were reminded how badly they felt when they were sick with the flu last year. No one wanted to be that sick again. It was hard for them do their jobs when they were sick. The Brain and Nurse Vaccine help put away the fears of the small pain of a shot and everyone realized it is not that bad. After all a couple seconds of pain is much better than a week or more! If they aren’t sick they won’t miss out on the fun!

This book is really cute. I enjoyed the way it used body parts, organs and systems to help explain how the whole community is affected when someone is sick. I think it does a good job of explaining a vaccine to young children with the same apprehensions about the flu shot. The pictures were cartoon science which fit will with the topic of the book. This book is not for those against vaccinations. It is meant to assist parents needing to ease and comfort their children who are afraid of shots. I would recommend this book for children ages 4-8 years of age.
