For Beth Cardall the year 1989 was a year marked with tragedy. In the aftermath Beth is left with no hope and has lost all faith and trust. On Christmas Eve, Beth takes a trip to the local 7-Eleven in order to buy supplies needed to keep a family tradition possible for the sake of her daughter. While she is at 7-Eleven Beth meets Matthew, a handsome, curious stranger who changes the course of her life forever. It is through his short existence in her life that she is able to regain trust, hope, belief in herself and openness to possibility and love. Though his identity is a secret she can never reveal his existence and affect on her life will change her destiny forever.

Promise Me is a novel of love that transcends all. The story is moving and emotional as Beth deals with love, loss fear and ultimate heartache. It is an example of love between husband and wife, daughter and mother and cherished friends. There are many poignant moments that have the ability to make the reader re-think love and trust. Richard tells his story in a moving and gripping manner. The book is very difficult to put down. I was immersed in the story and found myself wanting answers to my many questions. (Who is this mysterious Matthew? What ails Charlotte? Will Beth recover and regain trust and hope?) The author effortlessly guides his reader through a heartwarming story full of sorrow and blessings that is not without humor. It is a story about second chances, true love, blessings and the power of a promise.

I completely enjoyed Promise Me and highly recommend the book. It is a story that readers of all ages can enjoy, though many will be able to appreciate it more due to life experiences such as marriage, children, loss and finding hope through another person. I kept guessing at who I thought Matthey was and my first instinct was correct though I struggled with this relationship and discredited it as a possibility. The author’s writing style was easy to attach too. I identified with the characters and felt very much a part of their story and lives. This book simply was a wonderful read. I home many who read this review will enjoy the book also. It is a fascinating work of fiction.
