Mike’s job is anything but easy this time around as he works outside of his normal environment, in a town where he has roots and secrets run deep, with a girl who is “good” and a case that requires him to share more truth about himself than he wishes. Mike’s personal connections to the town date back to 1941 but even he doesn’t know just how deep his connections lie. Both Sara and Mike open up to each other while working to solve the mysteries they each have, each helping each other to heal from past in order to have a future.

If you only remember three words of this review they should be “Buy It Now”. I absolutely loved Scarlet Nights! Jude’s writing is fast paced, intriguing and sexy. This book is romance and suspense in the most perfect balance. I felt like I was reading a grown up Nancy Drew novel to some degree. The steamy scenes are great and not over done. I was hooked on the novel within the first couple pages; an instant love of the book quickly formed and lasted through the final words. I read the entire book in one sitting because I couldn’t put it down!

Jude has a magnetizing and flawless writing style. She provided plenty of story and intrigue that mixed well with the romance between Sara and Mike. She kept me guessing at the answer to the mystery until it was revealed. Though I had some correct thoughts and assumptions, the story was anything but predictable! I will re-read Scarlet Nights multiple times in my future. It is one of those wonderfully addicting stories that will remain on my bookshelf for years to come! If you love romance, light suspense or women’s fiction novels this book is perfect! It mixes the charms and pains of a quaint small town with big city drama and hot steamy romance. Well done Ms. Deveraux! I couldn’t be more pleased.

Marie and Her Friend the Sea Turtle tells the story of one little girl’s compassion. When Marie sees what she thinks is a sea shell she runs towards it with delight only to discover it is a giant sea turtle that is stuck on the mainland! The turtle needs to get back to the ocean in order to survive but Marie is not strong enough to help. Will Marie’s parents help or continue with their plans for turtle soup? The story tells of Marie’s bravery, compassion and desire to help her new friend.

The story of Marie and the sea turtle was cute. The story is delivered in three different languages which gives it a unique selling quality. I didn’t enjoy the set up of this quality. All three languages are on the same page which made the pages feel crowded. One page had to repeat itself in order to fit all three languages. The story is short and could have been delivered in a smaller book with a lower cost if it was one language. The book is $14.95 and while cute, I wouldn’t pay $14.95 for the story. The illustrations are nice, but not outstanding. The book has the same tone and imagery throughout.

Overall this book was average for me. It was a cute story with a good lesson, but it wasn’t spectacular and didn’t stand out in any particular areas for me. My girls weren’t very interested in reading it multiple times. I would suggest this book for children four to eight years of age who may be learning or speaking multiple languages. The book is written in English, Spanish and French. It appears to be a helpful tool for learning in this capacity. The story has many repeated words for language recognition and repetitive learning but is not for beginners.

Babysitting Sugarpaw

Sugarpaw does not want to be babysat and hopes to get rid of his new sitter, Bonnie Whiskers. Sugarpaw devises a plan to get Bonnie in trouble by changing his rule chart. Instead, Sugarpaw learns a lesson in honesty and friendship. Maybe a sitter isn’t so bad after all……

Babysitting Sugarpaw is a delightful story! The story is centered on Sugarpaw, a young bear cub who is afraid of being left alone with a baby sitter for the first time. Sugarpaw tries to get his babysitter in trouble to avoid having another but is instead taught a loving lesson in honesty and friendship. My daughters loved this heartwarming story that truly knows how to grab a child’s attention. They were full of comments and questions and love to read this book. I have included some of their thoughts below.

Hailey (Age 2)
He has a pout face! I don’t want a babysitter [he says]. He has to take a bath and clean up his toys! Where’s the mommy bear? Why is that the daddy bear? She’s [babysitter] not happy. He’s [sugarpaw] not being happy. That’s the babysitter, that’s the mommy. [Points to each]

Madison (Age 4)
Read it again! No paint [allowed] because he was a baby. He could read two pages of itsy bitsy spider. He had to take a bath and clean his room. He changed the chart, and then he felt bad and told the truth. His babysitter was nice.

Both my girls were enthralled with this book. The illustrations were wonderful in addition to the story. Hailey constantly pointed to the pictures. They are lovely, vivid and colorful. I highly recommend this book for children ages 3-8 years of age. It has a wonderful lesson and aims to help young children feel secure and comforted with a babysitter. We all enjoyed this charming story. It would be great to see a series of Sugarpaw stories.

Dragon House

Set in Asia, Dragon House is a story of redemption and healing. The story takes place in modern day Vietnam and tells the story of two Americas, Iris and Noah, who give of themselves by teaching Vietnamese street children in unfavorable areas as a means to heal from their own pain. Iris and Noah ultimately give the children friendship, educations, shelter and love. The process fulfills the dreams of children and breathes new life into Iris and Noah. Dragon House is a story of suffering, sacrifice, courage, friendship and love. It brings the human qualities of us all together and lifts the spirit.


This is the second novel I have read by John Shors and he does not disappoint. His novels are delivered at a pace that requires the reader to acknowledge and understand the impact of our actions, thoughts, lives and the world around us. This novel is no different. It is an emotional journey as you connect with Iris and Noah as well as the children they aim to help in a country that offers little to no support. John brings depth and understanding to the story while easily passing the same information to the reader with intrigue and artistry. The characters are well developed and realistic. Iris’s story deals with her fathers’ ambition and plan to help the children of Vietnam. Though he is unable to complete this task, Iris chooses to see his plan to completion as a way to honor the memory of her father and attempt to heal. Noah, who has seen the results of war, joins her in her task, having seen the trauma of war on a nation that has so little. The book attempts to bring about the timeless struggles of human nature [good &evil] in a new light.

Dragon House was a wonderful novel, though slow in pace. It challenged me as I read it because I deeply connected with these characters. Shors makes it easy to feel the emotions and pain of the young children but rewards you with the happiness and relief they also feel. I connected with Iris and Noah who both attempt to heal hurt from their past by positively changing the future of others. I wondered if I would be strong enough to give up my job in order to carry out the wishes of my father’s life. The novel transforms suffering into joy, hope into reality, and friendship into love and leaves a lasting impression on the reader. Simply put, John’s novels command attention while delivering a wonderful story with deep insight and emotional exploration.

CinderElla

CinderElla is a “new, kinder, gentler” telling of the classic Cinderella fairy tale. Written with the grandparent approved seal, the book has no scary stuff and is full of tickles and giggles as it puts its own spin on the classic story of Cinderella and her prince, featuring an enchanted pair of shoes that love to dance.

CinderElla is quite different from the classic fairy tale story of Cinderella. The book strives to remain positive in all aspects. Ella loses her mom from disease at a young age but not before realizing how much she is loved and valued. Her father eventually marries again but not to an evil stepmother. The stepmother tries to help Ella become more lady like. Her stepsisters are not mean but are very self centered and greedy. The book focuses on teaching positive manners and behaviors while discouraging the negative. When Ella meets her prince everyone lives happily ever after while learning the lesson “good things come to those who wait” and “Be content with what you have”.

While I personally feel there is nothing scary about the classic fairy tale of Cinderella, I did enjoy this version also. The book encourages values and life lessons such as kindness, sharing, honesty, manners, courage and strength. These are lesson every child should learn. Ella learns that beauty comes from within and is not self centered or greedy, she just tries to be kind and helpful to others.

While I wouldn’t choose to replace the classic with this rendition, I did like the story this book told. The book is full of vocabulary words that are underlined and defined in the back. I thought this was an interesting and unique touch. I would recommend this book for children ages two to eight years old, especially those children who may scare easily. This Gram’s Fairy Tale is sure to bring only tickles and giggles to your child as promised.

It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year: Christmas Shopping!!

It is no secret that I LOVE to shop!  The more shopping the better!  Retail Therapy?  Yup!  That's me!  So when this wonderful holiday season comes around every year, my shopping heart kicks into high gear and I become Tiffany- Shopper Extraordinaire! My shopping plans always include finding a great new place to shop or find unique gifts.  This year I have seen many blog post about CSN Stores and their many websites so I hopped on over to take an extended look at their inventory.  Boy was I impressed!  They have everything from delicious bookshelves, kitchen counter height stools, and dining room sets to electronics, wonderful kids toys and kid's furniture all available at the click of my mouse!  I found some great Christmas gift ideas both large and small for many people on my list.  I even found items for me!!

While I was shopping I found quite a few items that I really enjoyed!  I am currently in the process of looking for a nightstand that will double as a bookshelf.  I am rapidly running out of room on my shelves and need a spot to keep the books I am set to review!    I also found some adorable kids night stands that made me want to give my girls nightstand for Christmas!  I am still in the process of deciding how old they should be before that happens?   Anyhow, while shopping I found quite a few things I liked for others as well as myself.  I have included a few teaser pictures below!  If you have a wide range of shopping to do or you are giving yourself a gift by re-decorating CSN Stores has a great site full of many wonderful things.  Be prepared to have time!!  You won't want to leave the site.....

A Baby Really Does Change Everything

Working for a professional speaker, trainer and author I get to meet some interesting people in our day to day business. Many of which are also speakers, trainers and authors. I am blessed to have inspirational thoughts and tidbits coming at me from all sides including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, blogs, autographed copies of wonderful books and being privy to watch these phenomenal people in action.

This year has been a very challenging year but knowing all of these great people has pulled me through with more new opportunities than I have seen throughout my entire life!

One of these amazing speaker/author types and I were having a conversation while she helped to fill and and facilitate a course offered by our training company. She is always working on a new project and this subject that afternoon for us was her newest project, a book to be released this fall about Life Choices. I was familiar with the first Life Choices book and loved it. In fact, I knew a few of the authors within the book! As she told me more about the purpose of this next book in the series I thought to myself… “I have a story!” Then I actually said what I was thinking out loud, to her, this accomplished woman!

Is my story really worthy of a book? She gladly offered to read my story and possibly include it in the book if I could have it to her by a deadline only a few weeks away. “Sure, no problem!”

I should probably find time to sit down and write this story out but I’m supposed to be going away on a cruise with my husband and my boss for a planning meeting – am I really going to have time for this? I decided to push myself and give it a try anyway. I took the cruise and didn’t give the book much thought as much as I really wanted to have it complete and in her hands by the time I returned to shore. I started to panic – what about my story I promised to Judi? Maybe I should pass; I don’t think my story is going to help anyone anyway. Then I started to think about it a little deeper. Yes, as a matter of fact I do have a story. In fact, I had already started the ground work by writing and giving a speech about my story a few months back. A Baby Changes Everything – a story about myself, 15 years ago at this very time in my life – about as pregnant as I am right now and so lost and so confused about who or what I was going to be. The pieces of my puzzle began to come together as I worked on my story for this book. I had a few very close friends look over my work and help to proof it until I felt like it was ready and then I did the craziest thing I could have done…I sent it off to Judi and her editors for the book. I submitted a story to be published in a book – this is so much bigger than me, am I ready for this? Where will this journey take me? I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me!

I waited for her reply that they would include my story. Nothing. I waited some more, still nothing. Deadlines passed and nothing. I thought for sure she decided she isn’t using my story and I’ll probably get a letter saying “maybe next time” or something of that nature? I went to a local NSA (National Speakers Association) meeting by invite of Judi to see a speaker and I learned a few things during the meeting from all of these local speakers, I began to think about my story – maybe I should have done this, maybe I should have done that… Lucky me, I had the chance to speak to Judi at the end of the meeting and the topic of the book came up. I can’t remember what exactly I asked her but it was directly related to whether my story made the cut…Judi replies “of course your story will be in this book!” – I was so excited I felt like my self esteem had just been given a bump right back up from the pits of my toes straight up to my ears!

Here I am 15 years later, due about 5 days away from the same due date I had those 15 years earlier about to have my fourth child and couldn’t be happier. I was so afraid that everything was over then, but it was merely just the beginning.

I really enjoyed Ethan’s Chase. The novel has all the elements of a romance with a slight suspense element that adds to the intrigue. Both main characters are lovable. Ethan is strong, intelligent, good looking and able to take charge in and out of the bedroom. Chase is smart, sexy, beautiful and caring. She is true to herself and hardworking, which enabled her to have a successful programming business of her own. The novel is as much a story of Ethan and Chase’s budding romance as it is a light suspense about Chase’s stalker and jealous colleague.

The novel was easy to read and get lost in. It wasn’t the most realistic romance novel I’ve read but it certainly wasn’t corny either. Overall, I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to romance lovers and chick-lit fans. It has charm and steamy scenes in all the right places. I would read another novel by Bronwyn Storm based off her work in this novel.

The Pesky Peanut

The Pesky Peanut is a true story about a little boy named Kelly. Kelly is allergic to peanuts. His parents discovered his allergy on his first birthday during Kelly’s birthday party. From this time on they had to keep Kelly away from all things peanut. His allergy is so severe he cannot even touch them. The story helps children like Kelly learn about their allergy and understand more about allergies in general.

I really enjoyed the Pesky Peanut! As a child I grew up going to an allergist for my many allergies. Like Kelly I had a severe reaction that happened out of the blue at a young age. For me, the allergy was to red dye. Allergies are very serious and can be very confusing to children who have them. It’s hard when you cannot eat things other kids can. This book brings to light on of the more popular known allergies, the peanut allergy. It also enables children as well as adults to understand the dangers involved with an allergic reaction.

I believe “The Pesky Peanut” is a wonderful conversation starter for parents and children. It enables you to talk about any allergy by using Kelly’s story as an example. My daughters were very interested in the story and had plenty of questions. They were also able to ask about my allergies and made comments such as “Mommy, he was allergic to the peanut like you’re allergic to cats”. I would recommend this book for readers of all ages, especially children ages 3 -8. It is an example of what an allergy is, what it can do, how quickly it can escalate and how the danger of allergies can be avoided.

Mackenzie Lost and Found

Mackenzie Lost and Found is an intriguing novel of survival. Mackenzie, who has recently lost her mom in a tragic accident, is hurting, frustrated with her father and sad. When her dad moves them to Israel Mackenzie fully intends to leave with her return ticket to Canada in three months. Mackenzie meets Marla, a US citizen whom she shares a common loss with, and Nasir, a Muslim boy who she forms a forbidden relationship with. Both of these friends will change Mackenzie forever as she discovers herself, deals with her loss and ultimately tries to survive.

I really enjoyed this novel by Deborah Kerbel. Her writing is easy to get lost in. She makes the story come to life as the words seemingly jump off the page. The characters are very real and well developed. I finished this book feeling as if the story actually happened. The author did a wonderful job researching this book. The majority of the novel takes place in Jerusalem, Israel and its surrounding areas. As a result there is a lot of culture, laws, traditions and religions that differ from Mackenzie’s life in Canada. Deborah researched these aspects thoroughly. The novel was a great read; I enjoyed learning a little more about this region, people and culture through the book. It was an insightful story.

I finished this novel quickly and was most uncertain about the ending. The novel leaves the outcome of some aspects to the imagination of the reader. I liked and disliked this aspect. Ultimately I think it is for the best, but at first I just wanted that instant gratification in knowing for sure the outcome of these aspects instead of deciding for myself. As I had time to let the novel process I was happy I wasn’t told a specific ending. It let me be free to think outside of the box and come to my own conclusions even though the book hints towards a particular idea of a conclusion. I would recommend this book for readers twelve and above. The novel is YA in nature but can easily be read and enjoyed by adults also.

The Numbers Man

Pat, a sixty-three year old former geophysicist, has divorced and is looking for romance. He believes the key to finding this romance is thru the internet and his choice of dating website. Unfortunately Pat is not good with names, possibly a former career handicap, and instead assigns each woman a number. Pat meets Beth whom he starts to date regularly until she leaves town for a couple months. Soon he meets Donna who also seems a great match for him. While juggling the two ladies Pat is warding off his friend and employees young wife Ruby, who hits on him consistently. If that is not enough his life becomes more complicated as he promotes his book and meets a hot headed chef with a vengeance. His book promoter Sonia, always has good advice but to Pat it’s not always clear which path he should take.

The Numbers Man is a comedic romance about an old man trying to find love and his endless women. Pat knows what he wants but will he find what he is looking for? The novel made me laugh at times. It started and ended at a steady pace but lost my attention in the middle. The novel is fiction but inspired by events that took place in the author’s life. While the reader can discern which parts are most likely real (the author’s name, previous book, publishing company, experiences with promoting, reviews sales and self publishing) the rest is fictional in nature but feels as though it could be true. I would have preferred the author did not use his real name in the book as the main character, along with details that are not fictions such as his prior book and publishing company. Aspects like these left the book feeling like a fictional memoir which was confusing. I found myself focused on wondering what was true versus what was fiction instead of on the story itself. I would have preferred to read a completely fictional account with hidden truth. The author could have easily done this by re-naming the main character and not using other notable facts about himself.

Overall the book was average but fun to read. Rarely do you read a romance where the male is looking for love. This was a nice change of pace. The story was humorous, insightful and interesting for the most part. I would have preferred to read less about Pat’s radio promotions as they started to feel redundant. Key radio promos were necessary but more than that was too much. The novel is written in a diary entry like manner with dates to mark each entry. I enjoyed this format. It helped keep the time frame readily available. I noticed with my copy that the format of printing felt right aligned making the left hand pages hard to read when the words started going into the binding. I had to keep the book open wide which was uncomfortable at point. It would have been better to have printed those pages in left aligned formatting to avoid the spine of the book. I think readers in the target age group of forty and up would most enjoy this novel though any adult reader can easily do the same. If you are intrigued I suggest giving it a try. The novel is priced at $7.99 making it affordable and worthwhile.

Truly a book for all occasions, Tastefully Small Finger Sandwiches offers a wide variety with big taste for all entertaining needs. The book holds everything from “simple knife cut sandwiches” to “built to impress in ten minutes or less” or fancy sandwich techniques. No matter the party there is a sandwich for all, even if you are just looking for a mommy, daughter tea party.


My Review:
The recipes in this book are fun to sort through. Each of the recipes comes with ‘little bits’ which are helpful hits and ‘other bites’ which are substitutions or variations. There are ten different sections of sandwiches that included beautiful cutter shaped sandwiches, easy open faced sandwiches, sweet sandwiches and kid friendly sandwiches. Each chapter has four to six different sandwich recipes giving the book quite a variety.

I really enjoyed the ideas in this book. There are many shaped sandwiches that give an adorable or special look for whatever event you are planning. The cookbook helps you to think outside the box and explore different options. I didn’t care for most of the original recipes in this book and found that I would rely on the substitutions along with my own variations in order to make a majority of the sandwiches. The recipes are wonderful ideas but are outside of what I consider a normal taste pallet. Recipes like “Cucumber and Shrimp Triangles, “Bacon chutney Tulips” and “Caviar Tipped Rolls” are too extravagant for my taste and budget. The book truly is best for special occasions and events rather than everyday use.

I most enjoyed the “Sandwich Bouquet” and children’s recipes in this cookbook. The book had many wonderful ideas that can be incorporated for simple parties when you are not having a special event. If you’re looking to open a tea room or find recipes served at a tea room this book is for you! The author certainly knows her way around sandwiches and easily conveys her “how to” directions to the reader. I suggest you check this book out before buying it, to make sure it is right for you. If it is I’m sure you’ll enjoy it!
