After All is the third book in this Hanover Falls series and Ms. Raney sure has plenty of stories left to surprise and entrance the reader when Susan Marlowe finally begins to heal, after losing her husband in a fire, she discovers a secret that threatens to unravel her again. It’s a secret her husband, David, took to his grave. In the wake of his betrayal, Susan realizes her marriage was not all she thought it was and must try to forgive for the sake of her children.
As one woman grieves in silence over the loss of her closest friend, another mourns openly in the discovery of her husband’s betrayal. In the meantime, Fire Chief Peter Brennan carries tremendous guilt over the death spurred by the flames that tragic night. While he attempts to re-build, and put the guilt aside, he finds comfort in the person he least expected.
Deborah Raney is a great author! She constantly brings captivating characters with endearing personalities to her stories. This one is full of suspense, mixed with love and betrayal and sprinkled with forgiveness. Once I picked it up, I didn’t want to put it down. The books in this series just get better and better as Raney builds on the previous story. It is truly a series, in the sense that you should read them in order. The characters follow through the three books instead of switching characters sets and beginning anew. I highly recommended the Hanover Falls books; they are fantastic and interesting reads.
