Have you ever wondered what it’s like when a woman goes through a midlife crisis? In Here, Home, Hope the reader is introduced to Kelly, a 39 year old woman in the midst of her midlife crisis. Kelly is a stay-at-home mom with a wonderful husband and two charming sons who feels stuck in middle town, the area of life between babies and high school graduates. Her sons are self sufficient, requiring far less of her time. Her husband is a successful attorney and life up until now has been a comfortable routine, one that is rewarding yet exhausting. While sitting in the dentist chair days after dropping her sons at summer camp, Kelly realizes she needs something to do with her time, something for her, in order to bump herself out of this middle place she has arrived in. In an effort to break loose Kelly devises a plan to change that leaves her house covered in hilarious and witty post-it notes. This plan sets her on the path to fulfillment and makes her realize just how wonderful life truly can be. Just as in life, Kelly’s journey has challenges and set backs, but the rewards far outweigh any challenge she faces.

If I could pick just three words to describe Here, Home, Hope they would be; refreshing, honest and natural. This novel was captivating. The storyline was refreshing. It was great to read about a woman who loves her husband, her children and her life but arrives at a natural stage in life when it’s common to feel something is missing. Kelly is an extremely natural character. Her children no longer need her attention like they used too. She is lucky to be in a situation where she can choose to work or stay home. For Kelly, life as she knew it, before kids. would be impossible to return too. However, she wants to fill her days with something that makes her feel worthwhile, something that is for her and not part of her marriage or motherhood. When Kelly devises her plan to change she realizes things about her husband, her life and herself that makes her life more rewarding in the end.

Kiara Rouda takes an honest look at what the women of today face as wives, mothers, professionals and individuals who need self-fulfillment. Here, Home, Hope was a witty and humorous novel that had me laughing and crying along with Kelly. This book held many inspiring thoughts and captivating twist that made it hard to put down. I enjoyed the characters immensely. Ms. Rouda has written a beautiful story, full of real life issues that bring the here, the home and the hope all together in an easy to read and delightful story. I would, without a doubt, recommend this book to a friend.
