Seers of Light            Whisper of Light (The Light Series)

Please tell me a little about yourself. When did you know you wanted to become an author?

I'm an author, a free lance editor and a musician. I've wanted to be some kind of a writer since I was just a little girl. At first I thought I'd be some kind of editorial writer or journalist, and then maybe a poet. But, it ended up being novels for me, so far.

Please tell me a little about your novel.

Well, there are two books so far in the Light Series Trilogy--Seers of Light and Whisper of Light. These books document the lives of the paranormally gifted, always utilizing the voice of a strong female lead. My goal in this series is to not only spook and entertain my
readers, but to make them think about what inspires them, what they love and the purpose of their lives.

How did you become published?

I had been working on getting the first book in the Light Series published for a good while, earned a lot of rejection letters along the way, but, I ended up going with a small press that had seen my writing and was passionate about my book. They made me an offer and I decided to take the chance!

What was the publishing process like?

It was actually a lot of work. The editing process is the most time consuming, since it has to be approved by so many levels, but it's also fun to really prime a book, to make it shine further than you could have imagined. All the detail work is worth it. Oh! And helping
to choose a cover is fun, too!

What is something you wish you would have known about the publishing business?

Well, I don't think I really understood just how many authors there were out there in the beginning, just how competitive the business really is. I'm glad I know this now. It's really taught me a lot about focusing myself and it's inspired my creativity, as well.

What has been your best author experience so far?

Oh, wow. That is a super hard question. There have been so many awesome things so far... some I can't even mention yet! lol. But, I think that my readers voting Seers of Light into the nominations for Readers Choice book of the year on Goodreads was a highlight.

What is the least thrilling/attractive part of being an author for you?

I've had to learn to be comfortable with marketing myself. All authors learn this... and if you have the kind of personality where you cringe at the idea of approaching people to consider your work, that can be so hard! At the same time, though, I wouldn't have met the
amazing bloggers, readers, friends that I have if I didn't buck up and put myself out there, so, it's so worth it.

Do you have any advice for aspiring authors?

Yes! Aside from the obvious (grammar, grammar, grammar!), I would say to never, ever give up. Just plain refuse to give up. Keep improving yourself, take constructive criticism and pursue your dream until something gives. Also, really put yourself out there, your writing, your work, your reputation in any way that you can, because you never know who will notice and how that contact will come in handy some day.  Have an open mind and follow your gut. And most of all, be hopeful and brave!

Do you have a novel in the works?

Sure do! Book three in the Light Series is underway and tentatively slated for release in June.

What is your favorite book?

That is almost painful to answer, but, I will say Jane Eyre, because it may be a classical romance, but it's so passionate.

What is the last book you read?

The last book I read was the tenth in the Sookie Stackhouse Series - Dead in the Family.

What are you currently reading?

Currently, I am reading several books, but the one I'm most into is called Life Isn't All Ha Ha Hee Hee by Meera Syal.

Name three things you couldn’t live without.

Music. Love. Hope.

Name three things on your bucket list.

Find my soul mate. Make a living writing books and performing music.

Who is your favorite author?

J.K. Rowling. Hands down. She has a natural, beautiful gift and I adore her. Stephen King is a very close second, though.

I really enjoyed my interview with Jennifer!  I hope all of my readers and fan of Jennifer enjoyed it as well!  Make sure to enter via the form below to win a copy of Seers of Light or Whisper of Light!  Two winners.  You must be a follower to enter.  Followers enable me to host these giveaways.
